Antivirus from Kaspersky has become one of my favorite applications, in fact for almost five years I have used Kaspersky Internet Security as an application that I trust to protect my device from malware attacks.

So, let’s talk a little about this antivirus. Recently, the Joe Biden administration will ban the sale of Kaspersky antivirus in the United States, according to reports Reuters (via Neowin), the announcement was made due to concerns that the application was being used by critical infrastructure providers as well as state and local governments.

So, the US government is worried that Kaspersky may have close ties to the Russian government which is currently at war with Ukraine which of course we know is supported by the US behind the scenes. The US government also believes that Kaspersky poses a critical risk because it has privileged access to computers which could potentially steal sensitive documents and even make the system vulnerable to cyber attacks.

Prohibitions for the use of Kaspersky itself include download updates, resellers, and purchasing licenses and it is planned that these sanctions will come into effect on September 29, 2024, So organizations in the US that still use Kaspersky are expected to look for alternatives.
