Microsoft will lay off several employees who worked on Mixed Reality, where the layoffs will affect departments that contribute to the device Augmented Reality HoloLens 2, But of course sales of these devices will continue.

Reporting from CNBCthis employee reduction occurred a year after Microsoft make a change at his company by carrying out mass layoffs which affected 10,000 employees. Apart from that, these layoffs continue due to the impact of the discontinuation of several keyboard models and are now affecting the HoloLens 2 model.

We will continue to sell HoloLens 2 while supporting existing HoloLens 2 customers and partners.”

The layoffs which will occur in early June 2024 will apply to at least 1000 employees, some of whom work in the HoloLens 2 division. However, apart from that, device sales will not be affected and Microsoft will still sell the HoloLens 2 device which they first introduced in 2019.

There Will Be No HoloLens 3!

One interesting fact is that there are indications that Microsoft will not release a HoloLens 3 or newer generation device.

The reason may be because this device is not selling well on the market and only has a few fans. On the other hand, Apple actually took advantage of this opportunity by presenting the Apple Vision Pro which many users liked.

Well, Microsoft itself doesn’t seem to be focusing on additional accessory devices, but rather they are focusing more on selling subscriptions to their products such as Microsoft 365, Copilot Pro and selling Surface products which already have a user base.
