Microsoft is now no longer offering Windows 11 version 24H2 to Windows Insider Release Preview users, where now channel users who have not previously switched to Windows 11 version 24H2 will no longer be able to download and install the new build.

“We are temporarily pausing the rollout of Windows 11, version 24H2 to the Release Preview Channel,”

said Microsoft

Windows 11 version 24H2 itself has actually been available to Insider Release Preview users since May 2024, but due to potential performance problems, they finally withdrew this build.

Even so, Microsoft specifically has not provided further details as to why they are withdrawing the release of Windows 11 24H2 for Insider Release Preview, but perhaps this is related to several important changes related to the “PcaWallpaperAppDetect” problem for users who are trying to upgrade from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2.

Previously, quite a lot of users reported that they encountered problems like the one in the image above when trying to update the system to Windows 11 24H2 via Insider Release Preview. The problem is related to the “Program Compatibility Assistant Service” (PCA Service) which will monitor certain programs and tasks.

Apart from these problems, it turns out that there are quite a lot of reports which reveal that Windows 11 version 24H2 still has problems on users’ devices, including problems when opening the Word and Notion applications as stated on the page feedback hub followingor problems related to the game not running on Steam as expressed on the page following.

In other words, Windows 11 version 24H2 is still buggy, so Microsoft has withdrawn this build from special Insider Release Preview distribution.

However, if the bugs and problems have been fixed, especially the PcaWallpaperAppDetect bug, maybe Microsoft will release this build again soon.
